Walk #7

Walk #7...I have been walking for one week now and I haven't missed a day! Some days were better than others, but I still got out there! Today was a crazy busy day because I spent the whole day getting ready for my trip tomorrow. (Boston-Cape Cod-Martha's Vineyard) I cleaned for hours, went shopping, got my hair and nails done, etc. I still needed to go to the grocery store and it was approaching 7:30. I definitely wanted to get my walk in, so I walked to the grocery store, and when I was finished shopping my husband picked me and the groceries up! Not very conventional...but it worked! I walked 1 mile today....plus all the other running around I did! :o) I'm not sure about my internet access over the next 6 days, because I will be traveling, but I will keep walking and post when I get back home!

Walk #6

I walked 2.1 miles today...that's the distance from my front door to my friend Debbie's house. It was an uneventful walk but it served it's purpose...to get from point A to point B!

Walk #5

I took a long walk today for walk #5. I walked 8.93 miles. I enjoyed the beautiful weather, my music, and the scenery as I strolled past. Have you ever heard the expression, step on a crack and you'll break your mother's back? Well, I'm here to tell you it isn't stepping on a crack that's a bad thing, it's tripping over one. I tripped on a crack in the sidewalk, and it propelled my body into a slow motion, only seen in the movies, fly thorough the air, type of deal. I stopped my fall by grabbing a wall that paralleled the sidewalk. I'm sure people driving by thought I was a totally freak. If you can believe it, the only thing I hurt was my butt muscle--I slightly pulled it. Ouch!

I managed to snap a few pictures today... See the train? As I was walking over a bridge I noticed that a very long train was rumbling past beneath me. I stopped to look, and stood in awe for a few moments because of how cool it looked. I finally snapped back to reality when I thought how I must have looked to someone driving by. "Watch out! We have a jumper!" LOL...I moved away from the edge and kept on walking!

When I was almost home, I walked past a guy that was coming out of a store. He saw me and said, "Hey, you went a long way. I seen you 'cross town." I smiled and asked,"where did you see me?" His reply, "clear 'cross town." Okay...that tells me a lot.

Walk #4

I walked 3.94 miles earlier this evening. Had I known I was so close to the 4 mile mark, I would have kept walking. The temperature was perfect-- 78 degrees. Walking provides me with the perfect time to think. My mind wandered all over the place until I settled on Hollywood, and I thought about all the famous people that have died recently:Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Billy Mays, and Steve McNair. With the exception of Ed McMahon (maybe), their lives were cut way too short. Heart attacks, murder, and cancer claimed their lives, and I couldn't help but think of my own mortality, and the lives of those closest to me. I can't say that I am fearful of death itself, but rather, I worry about dying too soon. Weird thoughts, I know, but that's what flickered around my brain as I walked. I was reminded that it feels good to be alive and it's important to take care of my body, because as we all know, we are only given one chance at that.

On to more pleasant thoughts...27 more days until I leave for Spain! Yeah!

Walk # 3

Walk #3 was more like a "ride & walk" rather than a pure walk, but a walk is still a walk, at least in my book! I rode my bike for 24 1/2 miles, riding both the Western Maryland Rail Trail and the
C & O Canal Towpath. The walking part first came in when I needed my first "butt break". At the 12 mile mark, I got off the bike and walked 1/4 of a mile down the path (pushing my bike), and ended up at the Sideling Hill Creek Aqueduct. After we looped back and finished our ride, I walked a 1/2 mile to the Park n' Dine restaurant while Tom put the bikes on the Jeep. It felt good to walk after our ride, because I was able to really stretch my muscles.

Downloaded Walking Song for the Day: "Ben" by Michael Jackson. Today was his memorial service. I had never heard this song before and I found it on YouTube as I was skimming around and listening to some of his songs. The song absolutely blew me away. I think he sang it when he was about 13 or 14 years old. It's really beautiful, and if you can believe it, it's about a pet rat!

Walk #2

I nursed a pounding headache for most of the day, but I decided it wouldn't look very good if I crapped out on day #2 of my 365 walks. Interestingly enough, as I walked my headache started to go away. Hmmm....fresh air and exercise...what a good combo. I walked to the high school and walked around the track for a mile, making my walk for today.....1.92 miles. I listened to music as I walked and drank two full bottles of water.

Walk #1

"Just put one foot in front of the other..."

Today was day one and I walked 3.07 miles and it took me slightly less than one hour. I didn't break any records, instead, I took my time and even stopped to take a few pictures. I liked the look of this old fire hydrant. I know--kind of odd and random. Maybe I should attach meaning to this picture....Danger! Your health is out of control...too fat...take action!

The walking song I downloaded for today was: Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson
